Vita

Sandro Hirsch, born in 1997, is a highly awarded and requested soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue and principal trumpet player of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra since April 2022.

At the age of 14, Sandro began his studies as a young student by Professor Peter Leiner at the Hochschule für Musik Saar, before completing his bachelor under Prof. Klaus Schuhwerk in Frankfurt. Since October 2020 Sandro has been studying his Masters with Professor Reinhold
Friedrich in Karlsruhe.

Sandro has been awarded 1st prize in many national competitions (such as the Walter Gieseking Hochschulwettbewerb and the Süddeutscher Kammermusikwettbewerb, alongside four consecutive first national prizes, with the highest possible score, at the ‘Jugend musiziert’ competition), and is a scholar of many foundations (including the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, the Paul and Yvonne Gillet Foundation, and since October 2017 the Oscar and Vera RitterStiftung. Sandro is currently supported by the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe).

Alongside his regular appearances as a soloist and chamber musician with Piano and Organ, Sandro appears as a soloist with the Kammerphilharmonie Mannheim, the ‘Rennquintett’ and the Landespolizeiorchester Rheinland-Pfalz. His repertoire spans all periods of music – from barock on the natural trumpet (which he studied
under Prof. Hannes Rux-Brachtendorf), classical and romantic, until contemporary. In 2019 Sandro premiered the work written for him, ‘Dhyana’ from Gerhard Müller-Hornbach, and will be premiering a new composition written for him by Kathrin Denner, ‘Nyberga Eleven.’ He is equally comfortable improvising as a soloist.

Sandro was a member and the principal trumpet of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany until 2016, and in his time with the orchestra performed many times alongside the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. He has played in orchestras such as the Hamburger Symphonikern, the Gaechinger Cantorey and Concerto Köln.
After recordings with DLF, SR, SWR, WDR, BR and Deutsche Grammophon, Sandro released his first solo CD in 2017.

Alongside his active work as a performing musician, Sandro is a highly requested and passionate Pedagogue and teacher (youth orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate), and founded a Brass Band for Children in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda in January 2019.
